How to Save Money at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, Bahamas

Sharing is caring!

A Review of the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Nassau, Bahamas!

If you are heading to Nassau the Bahamas and want a resort with all amenities, check out the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar. It is a family-friendly resort with many activities for everyone of all ages. While this can be an expensive resort since it is not all-inclusive and everything has a service charge and VAT charge totaling 25% of your bill, there are many ways to save.

Including food and time at the Game room, I spent $550.50 for three people across 4 days.

Day 1: $108 – Lunch/Dinner at Food Trucks + Snack

Day 2: $195 – Game Room, Dinner and Refillable Cups

Day 3: $247.50 – Lunch + Dinner

1. Book with Points

When I booked my room, In cash the total was $2426.21. Instead of paying cash, I transferred points from the Chase Ultimate Rewards Account to Hyatt to book the room. It cost me 75,000 points total, at 25,000 points a night.

2. Purchase a refillable cup
Refillable Cup
Refillable Cup — $15 + Taxes

This cup can be purchased at some of the bars at the Water Park. They are $15.00 + tax but you can purchase one and use it your entire stay. Anything that comes out of the soda machine, lemonade and water is free in this cup. Without this cup you are paying $5.00 + taxes per non-alcoholic drink.

We bought this so that we could have unlimited drinks. It is also great if you bring your own alcohol, you can head to the stands to get mixers for your alcohol instead of paying $15+ per alcoholic drink at the bar and restaurants.

3. Bring your own Alcohol or Stop at the Grocery Store

The drinks at many of the places were about 16+. If you are looking to save money, I would purchase alcohol before arriving or have your driver stop at a liquor store to stock up. This will significantly cut down on costs. Even purchasing just a soda was $6.00 at most places.

4. Pack your own Breakfast and Snacks

We did not eat breakfast at the resort, instead, we bought cereal for one of the days, and for the other days we opted to eat lunch at 11 am.

We bought some of our snacks from back home as we had heard the prices at the resort were high.

5. Book excursions via Viator

We wanted to do the Swim with Pig Excursion and noticed that booking through the hotel was expensive, $ 390 per person for a similar tour to Rose Island.

Instead, we booked through Viator for $567. It included hotel pick-up and drop-off and lunch! The tour I booked is below and I highly recommend it!

6. Each Lunch at the Food Trucks
Streetbird Bird, Crispy Chicken Sandwhich
Chicken Sandwich at Street Bird

On the first day, because we got in a little late but too early for dinner we grabbed food at, Street Bird, one of the Food Trucks near the pools. Our total was $78.00, less than what we would have spent on lunch had we gone to one of the restaurants, since our dinner bills were over $100.00.

The food was good and included fries, which I loved! We ate at another food truck on our third day there as well. Not the second day because our excursion included food!

I was not a fan of Street Bird but on the third day we ate at Umiami and the burger was great! I would highly recommend checking out that place.

Conclusion

I enjoyed my time at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar and in the Bahamas. My mom and niece loved it. My niece is already planning our next vacation! Overall, my stay here was great and if I had my own kids, I would definitely bring them here.
