How to Save Money at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Nassau, Bahamas!
If you are heading to Nassau, Bahamas, and want a resort with all amenities, check out the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar. The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is a family-friendly resort with many activities for people of all ages. While this can be an expensive resort since it is not all-inclusive and everything has a service charge and VAT charge totaling 25% of your bill, there are many ways to save money.
During my 4-day, 3-night stay at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, including food and time at the Game room, I spent $550.50 for three people across 4 days.
Day 1: $108 – Lunch/Dinner at Food Trucks + Snack
Day 2: $195 – Game Room, Dinner, and Refillable Cups
Day 3: $247.50 – Lunch + Dinner
If I were to go again, here are the things I would do that helped me save money at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar.
1. Book your room at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar with Points
The biggest way to save money in the Bahamas? Your hotel. It is usually your largest expense, so any savings there make the biggest dent in your total trip cost. When I booked my room, in cash, the total was $2,426.21. Instead of paying cash, I transferred points from my Chase Ultimate Rewards Account to Hyatt to book the room. It cost me 75,000 points total, at 25,000 points per night. By booking with points, you are able to waive the resort fee, which saves you some money.
However, if you do not have enough points, you can book via Expedia, hotels, and TripAdvisor. Yet, there is one more option I would push you to consider. If you are going to pay cash, I would book via Hyatt Privé. They can include things such as comped daily breakfast for 2 and $150 in credits ($100 property credit + $50 beverage credit. You can find these agents in Facebook groups such as Grand Hyatt Baha Mar info and discussion.

2. Purchase a Refillable Cup to Save Money on Beverages
After saving money on the room expense, the next expense you have to think about is food and beverage. So let’s talk about beverage first.
I highly recommend purchasing the refillable cup at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar!
The refillable cup can be purchased at some of the bars at the Water Park. They cost $15.00 + tax, but you can purchase one and use it for your entire stay. Anything that comes out of the soda machine, including lemonade and water, is free in this cup. Without this refillable cup, you are paying $5.00 + taxes per non-alcoholic drink.
I purchased 3 of these for my mom, niece, and me so that we could have unlimited drinks! Also, if you bring your own alcohol, you can use it when you need a mixer for your alcohol.
3. Bring your own Alcohol or stop at the Grocery Store
Continuing with beverages at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, the drinks at most of the restaurants and bars were $16 and more, which adds up especially with the 25% service charge.
To save money at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, when you arrive at the airport, have your driver stop at a liquor store to stock up! This will significantly cut down on costs, and if you buy the refillable cup, your mixers will eventually feel like you are getting them for free. In many of the places, just getting a soda was $6 or more.
Also, if you feel like you have good luck, check out the Facebook group for the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar; there are many people who, when they are leaving, will leave their alcohol and extra items outside the room for anyone to grab. This is a great way to save money at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar!
4. Pack your own Breakfast and Snacks
Moving on to food, my mom and niece are not big breakfast people, and while I do enjoy breakfast, I tend to treat vacations more like weekends and prefer to have brunch.
Since we knew this ahead of time, we decided to pack some cereal and small snacks to eat in the mornings to hold us over until about 11 am when we either headed to the food trucks or a restaurant for lunch.
There was a Starbucks on the premises where we could have also grabbed things from, but the line was often long and the service charge still applied.
If you do not have room in your luggage, you could also have your driver stop at a local supermarket to grab a few items.
Saving money on food and beverage at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar will allow you to spend more on excursions and exploring the Bahamas.
5. Each Lunch at the Food Trucks
Your major meals are where you really want to figure out how to save money, especially if you do not plan on leaving the resort.
On the first day, because we got in a little late but too early for dinner, we grabbed food at Street Bird, one of the Food Trucks near the pools. Our total was $78.00, less than what we would have spent on lunch had we gone to one of the restaurants, since our dinner bills were over $100.00.
The food was good and included fries, which I loved! We ate at another food truck on our third day there as well. Not the second day because our excursion included food!
I was not a fan of Street Bird, but on the third day we ate at Umiami, and the burger was great! I would highly recommend checking out that place.
Eating at the food trucks for lunch and using your refillable cup will make your lunch bills at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar cheaper so that you can splurge a little on your dinners, especially if you want to eat at Marcus.
6. Book excursions via Viator and not through Grand Hyatt Baha Mar
Every single resort I have ever been to, many of the excursions have cost significantly more if I have booked through them. My favorite place to book my excursions is via Viator.
My number one tip when booking through Viator: make sure to check out Rakuten to earn points. You need to go to Rakuten first, search Viator, and it will take you to Viator so that you can search for your tour. This allows you to either earn points or cash back on top of your credit card when booking!
The real reason my niece wanted to go to the Bahamas was to do the swimming with pigs. Through Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, the Swim with Pigs excursion was a whopping $390 per person.
However, we booked via Viator for $567 total, and it included hotel pick-up and drop-off and lunch! The tour I booked is below, and I highly recommend it!
Saving money at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar
Saving money at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar can happen; you just have to plan for it in advance. Consider purchasing snacks and bringing items so that you can focus your money on dinner and excursions.
When you cannot save money, make sure to make purchases on a credit card that earns you points so that you can fund your next vacation or even pay for your next hotel stay.
I enjoyed my time at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar and in the Bahamas. My mom and niece loved it. My niece is already planning our next vacation! Overall, my stay here was great, and if I had my own kids, I would definitely bring them here.
How to save money on drinks at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar?
To save money on drinks, you should purchase the refillable cup because it allows you to get anything that comes out of the soda machine for free after the initial purchase for $15.00 + tax
For alcoholic drinks, I would recommend getting your taxi to stop at the liquor store to purchase some items.
How to save money on food at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar?
For Breakfast, you can eat at Starbucks or bring your own items.
For Lunch, I would eat at the food trucks because they are cheaper than the restaurants.
How to save money on the room at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar?
To save money on the room, I would book via points because then you do not have to pay the resort fees.
You can also find a Hyatt Prive agent, and they can provide credits and comp breakfast for 2 people.
I also heard there are often deals via Costco Travel.
Where can I find the refillable cup?
We were told that the refillable cup can be purchased at many of the bars/restaurants at the water park!

As a local I agree with everything you shared but want to emphasize stopping at the grocery store, there is one close by so it helps to keep the budget low when you make a grocery store run on the first day to get a few things to keep in the hotel room.
