Drones must be registered and approved for travel to Curacao.

I am headed to Curacao in a couple of weeks and want to get some aerial shots so I decided, I need to bring my drone. As I searched Google, I saw that I need to have my drone registered, and approved and obtain documentation to show at customs. There was a lot of information on Google and Reddit and now that I have gone through the process I want to share it with you to make it easier.

Getting the process started:

To be able to operate a drone in Curacao, the frequencies used by the drone have to be inspected by the Bureau of Telecommunication & Post and the drone has to be registered by the Curacao Civil Aviation Authority.

To register your drone, you have to complete a form, found here, they ask for details regarding the frequencies and how you will use it.

Once you have completed the form you email it to [email protected]  or [email protected]. Once they verify the form they will stamp it and send it back to you to be used at customs. If you want to see more information about this form and/or process check out their website here.

Next, you will need to send your registration form to [email protected]. That form can be found here. They ask for detailed information regarding your drone and its remote. You will also be asked to send a picture of your passport and drone. They will send this form back as well stamped and signed.

When doing this process, I included everyone in the same email. Everyone was helpful in getting me on track with all the documentation that was needed and answering any questions that I had.

What if I do not know the frequencies?

I did not know the frequencies and reached out to my manufacturer who was also not helpful. So I replied all, on the email and asked for assistance. They were able to send me the information and then I completed the forms. If you want to see my drone click here.

Conclusion

Now that I have received my completed forms for customs, which I received within 15 minutes of sending the completed form, I can begin planning the shots I want to get in Curacao. Check back in a few weeks to see what shots I got and how things went!

Let me know if you have questions about the process in the comments!
