How to Use Your Delta Stays Credit
With all the changes that happened with Delta Airlines including how you earn Medallion status, new boarding zones, and benefits, it can be hard to know how to redeem and utilize all of your benefits. The Delta Stays Credit is one of the new benefits that you may be confused about how to use. This benefit starts each calendar year not your renewal month, so make sure to plan this into your yearly travel plans to get the most out of your credit card. Let’s learn, how to use, Delta Stays Credit!
How do you get a Delta Stays Credit, What credit cards Offer it?
The following Credit Cards Have the Delta Stay Credit that can be used for hotel stays booked through the Delta Website:
- Delta SkyMiles Gold Personal and Business American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles Platinum Personal and Business American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles Reserve Personal and Business American Express Card
The one no-annual fee card, Delta SkyMiles Blue American Express Card is not eligible for a Delta Stays credit.
How much is the Delta Stays Credit?
Each Delta Skymiles American Express Credit Card has a different amount that you can get credited back depending on your stay. You can find out the amounts using the table below:
Card | Credit Amount |
Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express Gold Card | up $100 |
Delta SkyMiles American Gold Business American Express Card | up to $150 |
Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card | up to $200 |
Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business American Express Card | up to $150 |
Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card | up to $200 |
Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express Card | up to $250 |
When does the Delta Stays Credit show up?
I booked my hotel for Myrtle Beach on June 17, 2024, and on June 19, 2024, Delta emailed me saying I had redeemed my Delta Stays Credit. It showed up shortly after decreasing my overall balance on my card.
I have the Delta Platinum American Express Card so I got a credit of $150 because the hotel I booked was over $150.
How do you book using your Delta Stays Credit?
To begin your booking, you need to head to the Delta Stays website and put in your destination. Keep in mind that for the credit to apply you cannot choose to pay at the property or reserve with a deposit. You must hit the option that says Pay now!
As I searched most of the pay-now options were refundable within a certain amount of days. So this is still a great option if you are still trying to make up your mind.
Do I still get points for my stay?
Yes, you will still receive points for booking your hotel stay with your Delta American Express Credit Card. I received 3x points for my hotel booking because of the card I have, Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express.
However, keep in mind that you will not earn qualifying nights for the major hotel chains because you are booking through a 3rd party site.
Since this is a third-party booking, I make sure to call the hotel to ensure that they have my reservation so that there are no mishaps when I arrive.
Is it worth it?
Well, it depends. In this instance, the hotel that I booked was the same price on the hotel site as it is on the Delta website saving me $150. Myrtle Beach hotels during the summer are very expensive, so I was excited to use this benefit to save money. I was not interested in trying to get credit for the night instead for this trip I was focused on finding a hotel that would not break the bank since I was only going to be staying for 24 hours.
However, this could potentially cost you money. For some hotels, the price could be higher on the Delta Stays website therefore while you are not paying all of the the total, you are overpaying. I would make sure to check both sites before booking.
Conclusion
I would use this credit since you are paying for it in your benefits and annual fee. If you are not traveling, this may be a good time to do a staycation in your city to relax and rejuvenate.
