This NYC food tour surprised me, and I am still thinking about the churros and chocolate we had. It ended up being one of my favorite food experiences in NYC. Honestly, I need to go back to Nolita just for those.
Not all NYC food tours are worth it, and I went into the Nolita food tour, Tasty Global Bites, expecting decent food and a nice walk around Nolita. With how many “must-do” NYC tours end up feeling like tourist traps, I stayed a little skeptical even though I was invited.
What I did not expect was how much I would actually learn and how many places I immediately added to my revisit list. It felt less like a typical New York food tour and more like experiencing different cultures through the stories behind each stop.
In this Ahoy New York Food Tour review, I will break down exactly what the Tasty Global Bites tour is like, what you will eat, and whether it is actually worth adding to your NYC Itinerary.

The Tasty Global Bites food tour is a walking, New York food tour, where you explore Nolita through food.
You get to taste your way around the globe at 7 different eateries that feature food from Argentina, Spain, the Mediterranean, Italy, and India.
So if you are a foodie, this is perfect for you!
What to expect on the Ahoy New York Food Tour?
This is not your ordinary walking New York food tour. Not only do you taste amazing food, they give you the history behind each eatery. We learned about brother opening a Chai Tea place and how an italian restaurant was passed down through the family. In addition, you get ot know the history of Nolita and how it became what it is today. This is the best new your food tour where you are able to combine food with history.
How long is this Ahoy Food Tour?
The Ahoy New York Food Tour lasts 3 hours and is a walking tour. However, you do not end up walking that much, I would say no more than 1/2 a mile, but there are many standing breaks, and at some eateries, you end up sitting down for the tasting. I would still say to wear comfortable shoes. They let you know which tour stops have bathrooms and opportunities to buy beverages along the way if you are thirsty.
How many people are on this NYC food tour?
This NYC food tour is small, with no more than 12-13 people, and I was lucky and had two guides who bounced stories off of one another, making the tour even better.
Does Ahoy New York Food Tours accomodate Dietary Restrictions?
Ahoy New York Food Tours does take dietary restrictions into account when visiting each eatery and makes changes and adjustments as needed to meet your needs! I have been on other food tours, and that has not been the case, and I ended up having to skip a few stops!
A few days before the food tour with Ahoy New York Food Tours, my guide reached out about allergies, and I let them know about my shellfish allergy. We were not trying any shellfish on the tour. However, at one of the stops, the planned item was beef empanadas, and I do not eat beef, so they were able to change my portion on the spot!

This nyc food tour started and ended with a sweet treat, which literally made my day. It felt like I started with a snack and ended with a snack, which to me is the best way to start the day! The meeting place for the Ahoy New York Tasty Global Bites food tour can change depending on weather or restaurnts so look out for a message from your tour guide.
La Churreria
We met our tour guides at La Churreria where we tried Madrid style churros with chocolate.
This eatery was started by a man, “Lolo” who wanted to bring the essence of Madrid to the lower east side. He recalled his life back in spain and how after a night out they ate churros and wanted to bring this to the neighborhood.
They are known for the amazing tasting churros and what makes this even more unique is that they import the flour from spain so you have the perfect authentic churros.
These churros were literally mouth watering and I was so happy this was the first stop on my Ahoy New York food tour. I have been back since the tour because I cannot stop thinking about them!
Taim
After learning the history of the Saint Patrick’s Chathedral and checking out the Elizabeth Street Garden, which I did not know existed, we headed to our next stop on our NYC foodie tour, Taim.
Taim is a Mediterranean eatery that serves light and fluffy falafel that is not found at most Mediterranean places in the city.
Taim was founded by a woman who could not find the falafel that she grew up with and decided to bring the falafel that she grew up loving back to NYC.
We tried to harissa and green falafel with tahini dip and I can say that this is the perfect spot to grab lunch.
Upside Pizza
After finishing up the falafel, we headed out to try out the New York Slice at Upside Pizza. Upside pizza was started by two brothers and they are known for the “dollar slice” chain called 2 bros pizza!
As a New Yorker who has had their share of pizza around the city, this one has made me re-think my list.
Here we had a slice of the spicy vodka pizza, made with sourdough and flour that takes 72 hours to rise and it does have a little kick to it so if you do not like spicy food, ask for a plain cheese slice.
Kolkata Chai
After trying out 3 local eateries on our NYC Food tour, we took a break from eating to try out some Chai Tea.
Kolkata Chai is owned by two brothers that serves organic tea that is sourced from India. They wanted to bring the authenticity, respect and tradition from masala chai to NYC.
Normally I feel like I need all the fixings when drinking tea, but here, the one cup, was amazing and needed nothing extra.
Goat Bakeshop
Goat Bakeshop is an Argentinian Bakeshop and Cafe that serves some of the most delicious handmade empanadas.
Similar to other stops on this NYC food tour, this bakeshop was started by two brothers and offers authentic Argentinian food whose recipes have been passed down for generations.
Here many tried the beef empanadas with chimichurri sauce whereas I had chicken empanadas that were to die for. I love how they stamped each empanada. Each person got half of an empanada.
Lunella
Hopefully you are not full yet, because at Lunella, you have a seated meal with beer, wine Pinot Grigio or Chianti, or soft drinks. This is included in the price.
Lunella started as a family ran Sicilian restaurant who dishes are authentic to the region and not Italian- American. Their pasta is a dry pasta that is connected to the region the family is from.
Here you are able to taste bread alongside pasta alla norma, which is a rich eggplant topped with shredded ricotta served over rigatoni.
Figo
Our final stop on our Ahoy New York Food tour was Figo, for a taste of their signature gelato. This eatery is owned by a husband and wife team.
At Figo, the gelato is 100% made in the shop with fresh natural ingredients so that it tastes like the gelato you would have in Italy.
My first taste of the gelato made me pause and savor. I slowly devoured my gelato because the falvors were amazing and I did not want it to end.
Is Ahoy New York’s Nolita Tasty Global Bites food tour worth it?
Absolutely, as a New Yorker who has been to nolita countless times, this NYC food tour is the best food tour I have ever been on. Each stop on the food tour stops at a family run business, the food stands out from the thousands of options we have in NYC because they each have something unique and the tour blends history with food in a way that feels authentic and special.
For the price, $110, Ahoy New York Food tour delivers a quality food tasting, and you might not even need to have dinner afterward.
