Swimming with the Pigs in the Bahamas
Whenever you think about the Bahamas, swimming with pigs is the excursion that often comes up. There are a few different excursions that allow you to interact with Pigs. I chose the one at Rose Island because it was closer than Exuma and budge-wise was worth it. I love the excursions and would recommend this one to anyone interested. For this specific excursion, the pigs are domesticated and the water was clean which I have heard is not true for all excursions!
How much does swimming with the pigs cost?
Adults and Seniors cost $199 and Children under the age of 13 cost $169.00, it can be booked via Viator at the link seen below!
What does the tour include?
The tour that I chose included pick-up. There is an option not to include pick-up but taxis in the Bahamas are not cheap, so I decided to include it. In addition, you will be served a buffet lunch and will have access to a bar at Rose Island. The lunch was hotdogs, and burgers, including impossible burgers, chicken tenders, wraps, and fries along with a soda or water. The drinks at Rose Island were really good and cheap.
What should I bring to the excursion?
I would bring sunblock, a change of clothes, towels, a waterproof phone case and money. This will allow you to make the most of your stay and get great pictures of the pigs while in the water. I did get nervous a few times having my phone with me in the ocean.
A Review of the Da Pig Beach: Swimming with the Pigs
This was a 5 out of 5 excursions! I absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it.
We were picked up from the hotel around 9:30 am because we were the first pick-up. They stopped at a few other hotels before heading to the pier.
Once at the pier, they call out names to make sure you did your forms before loading up the boat to head to Rose Island which takes about 30 minutes.
Once at the island, we chose chairs took some pictures, and waited for our excursion to start.
Rose Island is nice. They have hammocks, beach chairs, and other places for you to sit. We placed our belongings in some of the chairs at the top and did not have to worry about anything as we were the only people on the island. At the top of the island is where you can grab food and behind it there are bathrooms!
The bathrooms are super clean!
After being at the island for about thirty minutes the pigs officially come out! They have everyone take some apples they have cut up and placed in cups and stand in a line in the water. Then they go over the instructions on how to feed the pigs!
The pigs come out and are excited as they enter the water. They come up to you waiting for you to give them the apples on the stick.
Once you run out of apples you are supposed to hold your hands up and tell them no so that they turn away from you!
Toward the end of the excursion, they bring out the biggest pig ever for you to feed and interact with.
Finally, at the end, they bring out the piglet who is around 2 months old. You are able to hold him and take pictures but make sure not to drop him because he is so little.
Overall, this is a great family-friendly experience that allows you to interact with pigs and have fun in the summer while vacationing in the Bahamas!
Conclusion
This is definitely a bucket list item that I would highly recommend especially with this tour group! If you have any questions let me know in the comments!
