How many Points did I earn in a month? August 2024
How many points did I earn in a month using my credit cards?
August was a costly month. I spent a lot of money on travel. I also tried to be very strategic about the cards I used to get the most points this month. I did make a few mistakes. I should have used my Chase Freedom more because it did have 5x points on gas for this quarter but most of the time, I used my Capital One Venture for 2x points.
This is the first month I carried a balance on some of my credit cards due to contracting work. They will all be paid off in the next month but it was a little alarming for me.
As you look through my points earnings from the month, you’ll see I heavily relied on my Chase credit cards and Delta Credit Card for my spending.
If you are interested in a no-annual-fee card to earn points, I would recommend Chase Freedom but if you want to earn points for your paying your rent I would recommend the Bilt Rewards Credit Card. I have both but utilize my Bild Rewards more frequently than my Chase Freedom.
Reward Program | July 2024 Points | August 2024 Points | How? |
American Express Membership Rewards | 101,582 | 103,035 | I transferred points to Delta to book a flight that I canceled and paid cash. I book all non-Delta flights and food-related purchases on this card. Rakuten also sent over points that I earned. I earned 3,599 points by shopping online and in-store! Rakuten is one of my favorite plugins and more information on how I use it can be found in how to earn points daily! |
Chase Ultimate Rewards | 66,413 | 113,728 | Since July 15, when I last published, I have gone to Myrtle Beach, California, Nebraska, and Buffalo! I also recently opened a new business card where I earned a 35,000 sign-up bonus! I have a few more months to earn the other 40,000 miles! |
Delta Skymiles | 6803 | 33,274 | I transferred 10,000 from my American Express Gold. The rest were earned through spending, Turo, Lyft, and flying. |
Bilt Rewards | 10,212 | 12,577 | Rent payment, snacks, and rent day trivia games. |
United Airlines | 3770 | 5.200 | I did one flight on United! |
Jet Blue Airways | 11,311 | 11,311 | None |
American Airlines | 8,166 | 8,606 | I did one flight on American Airlines! |
Capital One | 17,880 | 20,694 | Normal spending. |
August Recap
I traveled so much at the beginning of August which helped me accumulate so many miles! I even earned a lot of Hilton and Hyatt miles which I never talk about, since I try to focus more on transferable miles.
I earned Delta Silver Status for 2025 through all of my flying and I am hoping to earn Gold by the end of the year because I really love the upgrades to first and comfort + when flying.
September Goals
Since this is points up until August 17, I still have a lot of travel remaining. I plan on heading to Maryland, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. In each place, I will book a hotel and rent a car! In addition, I need to keep checking in on my Delta + Turo partnership points. I have only been awarded once but have rented several cars. They give you 500 Skymiles per rental car.
I would love to be able to add in an international trip in September before our next check-in around the 17th but I am not 100% sure.
I also have to earn the remaining points on the business card I opened and pay off all my credit cards from my spending in August. I have not planned what I will be using all my points for but I do have Fall travel plans in October and November for some domestic trips. I need to book these flights and hotels soon.
I am also hoping to figure out what brands of each hotel I like. I want to have go-to hotels that I stay at as I continue to ramp up my traveling.
I am planning to prioritize Delta Skymiles points in September so that I can earn Gold and need to make plans to use my Companion Pass in the next few months.
I love using points for travel! It’s a game changer and I wish I started sooner. I have the AMEX Platinum Card but I’m learning the Gold card is actually better for racking up points for everyday spending. Debating if I should add the Amex Gold card.
