Chatuchak Weekend Market Guide!

If you are in Bangkok, Thailand on a weekend, you must head to Chatuchak Weekend Market. It is the world’s largest market with over 15,000 stalls split into 26 sections made up of Food, Fashion, Art, and more. It’s the perfect weekend destination to spend some time and recharge from your flight.

The market is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 6 pm. I went both Saturday and Sunday while in Bangkok, as there are tooo many stands to cover in just one day! I left with so many great souvenirs for my family and gifts for myself. In the comments, let me know what you pick up when you head to the market.

However, if you are looking for plants, head to the market Wednesdays or Thursdays between 7 am – 6 pm because they open just the plants’ section on those days to visitors.

How to Get There

There are many ways to get to the market. You can take the MRT and get off at the Chatuchak station which leaves you about 2 minutes away. If you take the BTS, you would need to get off at (N8) Mo Chit Station (Sukhumvit Line). If you prefer to travel by taxi, grab, bolt, or tuk-tuk, you can take any of those and they will drop you off at one of the many entrances to the market.

Keep in mind, when taking a grab, bolt, or taxi, they make you pay the tolls so make sure you have small baht for that.

Places to Eat:
Cocnut Smoothie at Chatuchak weekend Market

While I did not grab food while I was in the market, I did get a coconut smoothie. It was one of the best smoothies I have ever had. If you’re looking for a sweet make sure to stop at one of the many stands to grab one.

There are tons of places to eat that serve everything you can think of. I would highly recommend checking them out as opposed to what I did which was eating before I came so I was too full to try anything.

What to Buy:
Passport Cover making station at Chatuchak Weekend Market

Passport Cover: There are many stalls where you can purchase passport covers in a variety of colors. You can personalize them using charms and by having your name engraved. I got three of them in different colors for my nieces and nephew with their names on them.

Jewelry at Chatuchak Weekend Market

Jewelry: There are so many stalls selling gold, silver, and fashion jewelry. There is a wide variety of rings, necklaces, and bracelets to purchase. What I really loved is that many of the shops could resize in the moment and my custom adjustments for you! I bought some rings and bracelets to add to my collection.

Clothing: There are so many items of clothing shops where you can buy denim, shirts, dresses, and much more for great prices. My suitcases were already stuffed from my overpacking so I decided not to purchase any clothes.

Art: If you are interested in art, this is the perfect place to beef up your collection. I found so many beautiful pieces of various sizes that I would have loved to bring back to increase my collection.

Conclusion

My visit to Chatuchak Weekend Market on my first day was overwhelming with all of the stalls but when visiting for the second time, I was really able to explore and enjoy my time there. I highly recommend that you you add this to your itinerary as it is a weekend destination that is worth it!
