Hot Air Balloon Mexico City: Teotihuacan Pyramids
Hot Air Balloon Mexico City

Imagine spending your morning soaring above Mexico City, surrounded by colorful hot air balloons with a view of Teotihuacan, the pyramids in the background.

While it is a little chilly, the fire from the balloon helps to warm the air around you.

This is one of the not-to-miss experiences that everyone should experience at least once.

Hot Air Balloons Mexico City

The Hot Air Balloon excursion was booked through Airbnb. Private transportation is included for your group that picks you up from your hotel or Airbnb. Your tour starts at 5 am, with a one-hour drive to Volar en Globo, where you meet your balloon pilot.

When you arrive, you pay, in cash, $192, but you can also pay in pesos. During your ride, they take pictures and videos that you can purchase for 1500 pesos afterward.

The Experience: Hot Air Balloon Mexico City

Once we finished checking in, our guide gave us ponchos because it was really cold that morning. As you are packing for Mexico City, I would keep in mind that in February, it is warm later in the day, and most mornings and nights, I needed a jacket.

Once we were all dressed and ready, we waited for them to blow up the balloons. As they are getting the balloons ready, the heat coming from the fire helps to warm up the area.

It is cool to see the process of them setting up the balloons before you climb into the one you have been assigned. There are different-sized baskets, and you can be in a one made for a couple or one for a group!

While in the air, it was a little scary. I was so nervous to move around, but once I got comfortable, I was able to relax and enjoy the views. It was really cloudy when we went so it was a little hard to get great photo,s but hopefully these capture the moment.

After your time in the air, you land in a field. Our landing was a little rough because we landed in a dried tree. However, before we all out out we did cheer with champagne. Once we exited, a van took us back to our starting location, where we met our driver.

After the tour, you have the option to head to a breakfast buffet for 200 pesos and/or walk around the pyramids, Teotihuacan, for 100 pesos a person and 100 pesos for parking.

We went to the buffet, and the food was so good. k\Keep in mind if you get the specialty drink it will cost more. We did not go to the pyramids as we were all tired.

I highly recommend doing the hot air balloon Mexico City tour unless you are afraid of heights. From the views to the overall experience, this is a bucket list item that you would want to check off.

  1. There is nothing like a bird’s eye view of a city from a hot air balloon. I did one of this in Egypt and really loved it
