Grape Stomping and Wine Tasting at Robibero Winery
I never expected to be stepping into a bucket filled with half-smashed grapes and have my feet covered in the purple smashed liquid on a Saturday afternoon, but that is exactly what my Wine Tasting and Grape Stomping experience was like this past weekend at Robibero Winery in New Paltz, New York. It was such a fun experience, and I would do it again.
In this post, I will share my own experience stepping on grapes, tasting wines, and fall sangria, and why you need to find your closest wine stomping festival so that you can try out this experience for yourself. This is a great experience for seasoned wine lovers and someone looking for a new adventure. This guide will give you a taste of what makes stomping grapes and wine tasting such an unforgettable pairing.
How to get to Robiber0 Winery from New York City

From New York City, there are several ways to get to the winery. You can drive, rent a car, Uber, or take the Metro-North.
I took the Metro-North round-trip from Harlem to Beacon for $17.75 each way, which is the off-peak price on the weekend. From Beacon, I took a cab for $67 each way. The cab was about a 30-minute trip. I would use the Metro-North app so that you can see where there are available seats, because the train was packed when we got on at 11:06. There were seats closer to the front, but the majority of the train got off in Cold Spring, and there were finally an abundance of seats.
I highly recommend calling your cab when you get to the Cold Spring station because cabs were at least 15 – 20 minutes away from the Metro-North station.
Tip: Robibero Winery is both family and dog-friendly.
How much are tickets for the Grape Stomping Festival at Robibero Winery

We bought tickets via eventbrite.
To get a discount on the tickets, we saw a code while there for $10 off, Italy. I did not use a code on my tickets and paid $30.80. If you buy tickets once you arrive, they do cost more, $40.
When you arrive, they give you a wristband and a ticket for the wine tasting.
Tip: You do not have to arrive at 11 am for the Grape Stomping; you can do it at any point during your time at the Winery.
Wine Tasting at Robibero Winery

For the wine tasting, you get to taste 4 wines of your choosing. For the menu, they have white wines on one side and red wines on the other. There is one rose on the menu, and tastings can only be done inside the venue.
They give you some information about the wines before having you choose where to start. They told us to start with dry white, before moving to sweet white, and then to red wines. One of the red wines does have an upcharge of $5.
I really liked the Seyval Blanc and highly suggest trying that white wine. I also tried the Candy 2021, Rose, and the Rabbit’s Foot. Whichever wines you like, make sure to purchase a bottle there. Because you will not be able to purchase them outside of the Robibero Winery.
Grape Stomping Festival at Robibero Winery

The grape stomping festival is held on Saturdays/Sundays in September, and you can participate at any time during your time there. They are open 11 am – 6 pm.
I decided to start my day with the tasting because I could not tell at first if it was going to be messy.
However, It was not as messy as I thought it was going to be, but it did feel a little gross as I stepped in, as you can see by my faces in this video. It was such an unfamiliar feeling as you step into the grapes to smash them. I don’t even think I have the words to describe how it felt, cause it is such an interesting feeling. I would highly recommend this experience if you are into unique activities.
It is recommended that you bring a towel to dry your feet after stomping. There is a hose to wash off your feet before you put on your shoes. So you do not have to worry about creating a mess at all.
Food at Robibero Winery

There were a few food options while we were there; however, if you want a ton of snacks, you should bring them with you. Outside near the bonfire, they have wood-fired pizza that is $20 cash.
There was a food truck as well that had chicken fingers, fries, and burgers that took cards. We purchased the chicken fingers, fries, and pizza. I highly recommend the chicken fingers. They were seasoned to perfection!
Inside, you can purchase a variety of cheeses that you can pair with the different wines, in addition to hummus. They do take cards inside.
Other activities at Robibero Winery

After your tasting, there are a few options available if you visit on a Saturday or Sunday. They have live music from 2 pm to 5 pm.
You can also rent games and corn hole supplies using your ID. They also have a bonfire area.
After your tasting, you can continue to try out different wines by purchasing a glass or a bottle.
You can even order wine at the wine wall. They also had an apple caramel sangria that was really good. I highly recommend getting a glass.

What a fun experience. It reminds me of the episode in ‘Here’s Lucy’ where she and her friend were grape stomping – so funny!
This seems like a blast! I am a huge wine girlie and adding this to my bucket list. Thank you for sharing!
This looks like so much fun! Haven’t ever had the chance to take part in grape stomping so will definitely be adding it to the bucket list 🙂
I absolutely love wine tasting, but 1) have never done it in New York and 2) have definitely never gone grape stomping (yet). I will definitely keep this in mind for my next visit!
How fun – there’s so much to see and do in NY besides going to NYC. I would love to visit upstate area.
