Is Secrets St James Worth It? Montego Bay Hotel Review

Secrets St James Montego Bay Review

There are so many hotels in Montego Bay, Jamaica to choose from when heading there on vacation. If you are looking for a relaxing experience that gives you access to 2 other resorts included in your stay, then check out these Hyatt Properties, Secrets St James, Secrets Wild Orchard, or Breathless. I stayed at the Secrets St James and would highly recommend this for a relaxing stay in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Keep in mind, that Secrets is an All-Inclusive resort that is Adults Only.

How much did the stay cost at Secrets St James?

We stayed in the Preferred club. So our room was 44,000 points per night, costing 132,000 points! We were in a Preferred Club Junior Suite Ocean View King. The cash price of the hotel was $2,917.00. You can book via all major hotel sites such as Expedia, Hotels.com, and booking.com.

The cost for a standard room at this resort was 35,000 points a night.

We booked our stay on points from our spending on Chase Credit Cards and some points from Bilt Credit Card. Our flights were also booked via points on Delta and Jetblue totaling $150.

What is included in the Preferred Club at Secrets St James Montego Bay?

The preferred club at Secrets was great. Upon arrival, we were taken to a different check-in place where we were given a cold towel to wipe our hands and were offered rum punch or champagne as we went through the check-in process.

After checking in, we were shown the Preferred Club Lounge. This club had a small buffet of food like jerk chicken, plantain, and mini cakes in addition to games and top-shelf alcohol that were included with the room type we booked. The food options changed twice a day and were different each day!

Included in your preferred club rate, is a $200 amenity credit. Sadly, it is split up among several amenities and you cannot use it all in one place. I hope Hyatt changes how this credit can be used.

In addition, the preferred club has its own section of the property that includes a bar, pools, day beds, and jacuzzis.

You can use them at your leisure throughout the day, though they charge for the cabanas.

This section of the hotel was not packed and you could easily get towels and alone time with the different amenities.

Finally, we did receive an email from our concierge person before our stay asking us for some information about our stay. They included a bottle of champagne for each day of our stay. Initially, we had wine but they offered to change it for us because we do not often drink wine!

Amenities

9 on-site restaurants are included in your stay. The restaurants are located closer to Secrets Wild Orchard. We headed there each night to have dinner and for breakfast in the mornings. You can ask for a golf cart to take you to the other side if you are tired of walking. Be Aware: They do go fairly fast!

If you want snacks/food throughout the day, there is a Jerk Center where you can grab pizza, jerk chicken, fries, and more during the day.

Of the restaurants on the property, only two need reservations: Altitude at the rooftop at Breathless and the Teppanyaki table at Himitsu. You can reserve those when you arrive!

We ate at the Altitude restaurant at Breathless and the Ackee dish was amazing.

Tips for Your Stay

To make the most out of the trip, I highly recommend downloading the Hyatt All Inclusive app, “Inclusive Collection” click for Android or iOS, as it gives you a ton of information about the resorts and what events are happening. You can also use it to order room service.

In addition to all the dining options, you can also reserve a spa treatment, cabanas, and candlelit dinners on the beach to make your stay even more special. Each of these has a different cost and is not included in your stay!

Overall Experience at Secrets St James

I used this vacation as a reset from the hustle and bustle of the city and would recommend this resort to relax. This is not a turn-up resort, but if you want to party we were told that Breathless has parties during the day. There is a lounge/club on site, but I did not head there, as we decided to leave the resort for nightlife.

I loved the food at the Jerk Hut and made sure to stop by each day. For someone who cannot eat spicy food, I could still eat this chicken and of course, I always got fried with my order. For the restaurants on-site, I enjoyed each of them and still remember the Ackee we got from Altitude to this day. I might need to go back for that.

My room was perfect, I loved that we were facing the ocean and that room service was delivered to the cubby as opposed to us having to open the door each time. The jacuzzi on the balcony was the perfect touch. Coming back late at night and being able to soak in the moonlight was the perfect end to each night.

Overall Recommendation for Secrets St James

If you are looking for a relaxing stay, Secrets St James Hotel is a great place to stay. It is not a party resort and most of the people we saw were older couples at the resort. All of the staff that we interacted with were nice and always willing to help us with whatever we needed.

Tip: if you like to iron your clothes over steaming them you might want to order one on Amazon as they do not have them onsite.
